NICU Follow-Up

Neonatal Follow-up and Infant Assessment Services

Affinity Health System provides a comprehensive program to meet the special needs of developing infants.

The Affinity Neonatal Follow-up and Infant Assessment Services are designed to assess the medical, nutritional, neurological, musculoskeletal, developmental and psychosocial needs of pre-term, full-term or high-risk infants after leaving the hospital. Babies who are born prematurely or who are very sick at birth are considered “high risk.” Many infants may have subtle problems with movement, feeding and/or sleep. Other infants will not have any problems. Often a baby who is falling behind developmentally can be helped to “catch up” if the problem is detected early.

The Follow-up Clinic’s team of specially trained therapists, physicians and nurses is experienced in addressing the ongoing needs of families caring for infants with special needs. The team evaluates each infant’s progress in performing normal activities.

Infants are usually seen starting at two months of age and continue to be seen at intervals determined by the infant’s needs, up to 36 months of age. Regular reports are forwarded to the infant’s primary care physician. All therapy plans and referral services are coordinated with the infant’s primary physician and do not replace regularly scheduled well-child visits.
